PERFORMANCE "PROPAGANDA"

As part of the Eastern Festival of Photography, the performance "Propaganda" by artist Olga Volodina took place on the streets of Lublin, Poland

Concept:

​

Propaganda is the ultimate weapon against personal loneliness. It manipulates our natural human desire to belong, offering a sick illusion of community. Today, independent media are practically extinct; massive funding makes corporate voices loud and fills auditoriums dictated by financial elites, while "talking heads" masterfully swap good and evil, stripping us of true choice. Slowly, we dissolve into the current agenda. It's easier that way. It feels safer because we don't have to think or doubt. But the price of this comfort is terrifying: the system turns people into mindless dummies, conditioning us like livestock and turning us into mere cannon fodder for its hellish war machine. We fear disconnecting from it because we dread the chaos of making our own decisions and choosing our own path.

 

Artist's Statement:

"Before you is a human being, hooked up to a television through a large number of tubes. Every single second, informational poison is pumped straight into their mind. I cannot save them alone, but we can do it together.

"I call on you: don't just be a crowd.

Make your choice.

Step forward, take these scissors, and cut one of the tubes attaching this person to the machine of lies.

With this symbolic gesture, we will stop the mental infection and reclaim a human being's right to true freedom

Action:

 

Passersby and festival guests were invited to take scissors and cut the tubes connecting the person to the system, one by one. This symbolized cutting off from the infection of consciousness, moving closer to freedom, and choosing oneself over the imposed agenda.
